“Articulate understandings of love with words and actions that help heal lives rather than with words and actions that destroy lives.” –Author-poet Aberjhani (from 5 Ways to be Geniuses Together)

The Quotable Poet gave a powerful send-off to the second member of his “Encyclopedia of the Harlem Renaissance” team to pass in recent years… Dr. Ja A. Jahannes. The good doctor not only shared pages with the QP in the encyclopedia. They were both also published in editions of the Savannah Literary Journal and in the travel anthology called Literary Savannah.

When subscribers to his cultural arts column received the email notice about the article on Dr. Jahannes some of us let out a big “Whoaaaa!” as we checked out the title: “5 Ways to be Geniuses Together.” Use of the word “geniuses” wasn’t exactly new because the QP’s been playing with the hashtag #BeingGeniusesTogether for several months. Seeing the reference to it in a headline was bold though ‘cause let’s face it the first thing in some hypocrites’ minds is that he’s self-promotin’ (like that’s not what everybody else is doin’ too in one way or another) when in fact he’s paying tribute to a colleague.

Another unexpected move came when the QP posted a second article-slash-essay on his Bright Skylark Literary Productions site. This one is called “The Wit, Wisdom, and Genius of Ja A. Jahannes.” The first 3-part article is the kind any dedicated writer hopes somebody will write about them when they lay their keyboard to rest. Check out the quotation art-graphic posted with each part. The second blog-essay is hands down one of the best pieces anybody could want to read for literary background info on the honoree and on the QP Aberjhani himself doing their thing in the city of Savannah-GA during the 1990s.

Both our quotes for the month of August come from “5 Ways to be Geniuses Together.” The one at the beginning (up top) is from part 1 of the article. This one is from part 2:

Being geniuses together quote by Aberjhani with MS25 Artlook 2015 typograhic

“Being geniuses together (to borrow the phrase from Kay Boyle’s and Robert McAlmon’s classic memoir) makes it possible for human beings to serve as each other’s heroes rather than simply function as each other’s antagonistic nemeses.”–Aberjhani (from the essay 5 Ways to be Geniuses Together)

The Quotable Poet and #Selma50: Passionate Love and Passionate Hope

Raise your hand if were surprised to see recaps of the #BlackLivesMatter and #AllLivesMatter social media campaigns popping up on mainstream media last month. Right, that would be basically nobody! And that includes the Quotable Poet because he kept his pen marching in step with the masses with 2 strong pieces. The first was his Selma Revisited series and the second was his story on the new novels by superstar authors Harper Lee and Toni Morrison.

At the same time, a lot of Soldiers of Love, like Senator Cory Booker on Twitter and FamilyShare on Facebook, shared his vibes on Valentine’s Day. For some post-9/11 authors getting tagged for dedications to romance and African-American history at the same time might sound kind’a schizo. When I t comes to QP Aberjhani’s commitment to social justice from his expressions of mystical-love-passion you can’t really separate the two. That’s why we’re giving you 3 for 3 in honor of #Selma50 :

Passionate about Social Justice

“Dreams can not only come true, but they can actually create revolutions in the human heart and provide healing for the human spirit.” –– QP Aberjhani (from A Writer’s Journey to Selma, Alabama)

“There are times when the political circumstances of a given hour define what we recognize as the human condition. The violent racial turmoil and subsequent moral victory of those who stood strong against it in Selma, Alabama, and elsewhere throughout the United States in 1965 was precisely such a time. So are the human rights and broader spectrum of ethical predicaments currently before the world’s polarized populations in 2015.” –– QP Aberjhani (A Writer’s Journey to Selma, Alabama)

Mainstream media black men geurrilla decontextualization quote by Aberjhani with graphic by BrainyQuote“Mainstream media’s representation, or its guerrilla decontextualization, of black men’s lives in particular can set the stage for erroneous assumptions capable of damaging an individual or a nation.” QP Aberjhani (from Text & Meaning in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 with image from BrainyQuote)

 Passionate about Mystical Love

Love as a concrete foundation quote by Aberjhani image by Top Famous Quotes“Love as a concrete foundation” qoute by Aberjhani with typographic art by Top Famous Quotes “Love as a concrete foundation for an authentically functional civilization requires the around-the-clock labors of forgiveness. Without it, Love fails, Friendship fails, Intelligence fails, Humanity: fails.” – QP Aberjhani (from Journey through the Power of the Rainbow, typographic art from Topfamousquotes.com)

“Most people are slow to champion love because they fear the transformation it brings into their lives. And make no mistake about it: love does take over and transform the schemes and operations of our egos in a very mighty way.” ––QP Aberjhani (from Illuminated Corners: Collected Essays Volume 1)

 This fire that we call loving quote by Aberjhani with text graphic by FamilyShare on Facebook

“This fire that we call loving is too strong for human minds. But just right for human souls.” –Aberjhani (from Elemental: The Power of Illuminated Love)

September 11 2001 quote by Aberjhani with graphic from AZQuotes                                                                                          (From AZQuotes)

This month’s quotes are from AZQuotes because they’re in the process of setting up such a cool website that there’s a good chance somebody here is going to sign up on it. Just not possible not to like the profile pages, love the quote selections, and truly dig the feature that lets you make quote graphics. Both quotes you see pictured here come from the poem “Angel of Remembrance: Candles for September 11, 2001.” So enjoy the one up top and the one at the bottom.

Now for the Top 3 QP News Notes: All the changes coming out of the Quotable Poet’s camp this summer have been big ones. These are the top 3 but if you got something hotter let us know:

1) HOT OFF THE PRESS: You can call “Creative Flexibility and Annihilated Lives” an instant QP classic published in the new edition of Words & Violence. It rocks a bangin’ new essay with a classic poem, fresh hash tags for your social-media-conscious consideration, and some deep new vibes on guerrilla decontextualization.

2) The Red Room author website shut down in July and that means the Quotable Poet Aberjhani’s pages on the site did too. It had some articles, photos and videos piled up over d6 years that nobody else had. These and the works of other writers on the site are now supposed to be on Internet Way Back Machine.

3) So after Red Room went on the auction block the QP set up two new signif writing camps to go along with his base blog and CTI page. One went up on LinkedIn and the other on Wattpad. Some people might say the LinkedIn Blog is not a good fit but the QP said it works.

Cover still from “Notes for an Elegy in the Key of Michael (Jackson) 1 and 2 by Aberjhani” video.

You might have noticed how I sometimes talk about the way the Quotable Poet’s Bright Skylark website seems to borrow more from this blog than I get from them. That’s mostly the way it rolls but every now and then they toss out a major sound-byte. This time around it’s the blog post
In Commemoration of 100 Thousand Poets: On Elegies, Dreams, and Michael Jackson  which is about 100 Thousand Poets for Change and Aberjhani’s new video: Notes for an Elegy in the Key of Michael 1 and 2.

Since the blog’s already a done deal and you can just click the link to read it, the only thing I’ll add is that the video is along the same lines as his Angel of Peace video. The music is different but by the same artist and the images of MJ received some major art upgrade with quotes from the poem plastered right on them. My only two thousand dollar criticism is the quote is a little hard to read on a couple of the frames but the whole poem rolls in at the end and you can the video info section to read it too.

I’m guessing this blog and video launch happened because Aberjhani hooked up with 100 Hundred Poets for Change months ago and he had to deliver what he promised but otherwise I’m thinking Troy Anthony Davis’s execution would have shut down productions for a while. It’s something to think about, huh?

"How Poets and Words Burn Truth into Love" artwork from original poem post by Aberjhani on Authors Den.

I’ve been saying for the past year how the Quotable Poet Aberjhani has posted more journalism articles and essays than poetry and he said the same thing in Seduced Once Again by Poetry. But the other thing he said in the same blog was that he was going to post a brand new poem on September 1, which was yesterday.  Well he did just like he said he would.

The poem is called How Poets and Words Burn Truth into Love  and so far seems to be posted only on his AuthorsDen site.   I’m calling it the September Poem of the Month because the Bright Skylark crew basically took over my Quote of the Month slogan. I’m also calling it that because it’s presented as a tribute to “the 100 Thousand Poets for Change initiative, and dedicated to all struggling at this time in history for life, love, peace in the world, and peace within themselves.”

You can read it by clicking the you know what:

Video Version of “Angel of Peace” by Aberjhani

From “Angel of Peace” by Aberjhani video poem with music.

It didn’t take long after the link for the SlideShare version of Angel of Peace got posted for a couple of emails to arrive asking why it wasn’t made into a video. Well guest what? It was, and you can check it out at this link: http://youtu.be/0Jpfe4Z1btk

The music is called “Raindrops” by a musician named Mesje. Funny thing is Mesje had a lot of songs available for downloading for free but nothing on the site about her or him. Tried buying the music on Amazon and it wasn’t there. What up wit dat? So the hunt’s on to find it someplace else. But for now this is MS25 saying thank you Mesje for putting it out there:  http://www.last.fm/music/Mesje  And hit me up with any comments or requests about the video because I would really really really really appreciate permission to use more of your music with other projects.

I’m almost caught up now on my promise to catch up with this blog. Don’t look for me to cover every single there you’ve been seeing or reading about Quotable Poet Aberjhani because apparently he’s been one busy writer and it teaming up with the 100 Thousand Poets for Change deal.  That’s reason enough to make the next blog a news point sheet or something like that. What’s it called, a fact sheet? Maybe…

The Quotable Poet blog started two years to throw a spotlight on different accomplished authors like Aberjhani who were not as well known as some other authors in their league. (Same deal with certain Indies.) The idea I guess took off cause now there are loads of sites that post his quotes. Some of the best ones are posted on Twitter and Facebook every other day. That doesn’t mean I’m gonna stop posting them here. It does mean I’m stepping up my throw-down by tossing some new deals into the mix.

First up is the new Slideshare presentation of Angel of Peace by Aberjhani (poem and text with art). Each slide is a color graphic with a section from the poem and some amazing art. Check it out at this url:

http://www.slideshare.net/MS25/angel-of-peace-by-aberjhani-poem-with-text-and-art

The text of the poem was posted separately with other notes but seem to be having trouble staying there I’m giving it to you here also:

Angel of Peace by Aberjhani
(Poem number 5 in the “Songs of the Angelic Gaze” series)

Such are these places
where lovers of bliss behold
the angel of peace:

Above the burning,
and below the cold of all
the sad killing fields;

Where poetry sighs,
smiling magic in the lap
of flesh and blood joy;

Upon the shoulders
of elders carved beautiful
by sage artistry;

Where a starbright gown
trails healing through gardens of
eternity’s laughter;

In the arms of dreams
that shepherd hope through the eyes
of praying children;

Under waterfalls
bristling silk storms from the shores
of my skin to yours;

In the taste of a woman
glowing firemilk through
the tips of her breasts;

Afloat on rhythms
of minds too stoned on love to
recall how bombs work;

At the edge of a
man’s kiss casting holy spells
of sweet compassion;

Inside the beauty
of faith’s unburied treasure
sparkling truth and hope;

Beneath trees of song
heavy with angelic light,
evergreen with strength;

Upon the wings of
nightingales trilling comfort
to embattled grace;

In your heart’s whisper,
soft as love, that truly all
is well with your soul.

For those who emailed asking if I was the one who posted the List of Famous Aberjhani Quotes on Ranker the answer is as a matter of fact I did not Thank You . But if you ask if I had anything to do with the 50 Amazing Contemporary International Poets list, then we’re talking a different story because I mos def made my contribution to it.

So yeah the list is on the Rankers site but it’s not exactly a ranking as in top dog versus underdog because it’s mostly alphabetical and it’s also mostly all about sharing props with some peeps who have made poetry mean something more than just a popular word to throw around. Read their poems and you see how they paid for those lines with their lives.

Probably a hundred or even a thousand names could have gone on the list but who can afford to work that hard for free? You feelin’ me? Anyway this was one good way to give a nod to National Poetry Month so check it out please right here:

Realtime history-makers music diva BeYonce and Hip-Hop entrepreneur Jay-Z.

History is something you can find in every kind of writing the Quotable Poet Aberjhani does, from the poems and essays to the articles and books. Sometimes it’s literary history, sometimes women’s history, general American history or even alternative history. And then sometimes it’s mainstream African-American history. The Encyclopedia of the Harlem Renaissance and The Wisdom of W.E.B. Du Bois made it clear he knows his way around the subject of what life was like for people of African descent in the last century and his work is always important for Black History Month.

But what really rocks right now is seeing how he tags history while we’re living in realtime in the twenty-first century. He’s been doing that steadily since writing about the “Re-interpretation of Slavery” in Savannah, Georgia, for Connect Savannah back in 2006 (?—that date sounds about right). But it took off major in 2009 with the Countdown Series for the National African-American Art Examiner column. The writing focus is on African-American history presently in progress but the bigger picture from where I blog seems to be humanity in progress with African Americans as the main subject group. Any way you look at it, this is a good list of 10 posts from the Quotable Poet on the history of what’s happening now. Click any link and make a great discovery…

If you appreciate Rumi, Khalil Gibran, or Tagore, Walt Whitman, or Langston Hughes, you'll love ELEMENTAL, The Power of Illuminated Love.

Amazon.com: Customer Discussions: Priceless in so many ways.

Not to call myself a master wordsmith but what the Quotable Poet Aberjhani says in this linked discussion on Amazon comes close to what I’ve said a few times about ELEMENTAL and some other modern masterpieces. In this new discussion, which seems to me kind of short considering the subject, he talks about the amazing value of the paintings in the book and how years from now they’ll probably total in the millions. Yet here it is Black Friday time and this incredible collectible has been chopped down by 25% in some places and 50% in some others. But true to the American money-machine spirit, there are other places where it’s more than five times the original price.

It seems almost criminal that something so profound could go for so little but the truth is the writer behind this has always been known to put more energy into sharing his creative adventures than getting profits out of them. How smart is that? Maybe not so much at all when you look at it from one side, but then extremely smart when you look at it from another. In the meantime, you can check out what the chat is about by clicking the link above.
