There’s plenty good reasons some people refer to our Quotable Bard as “The Poet of the Rainbow” or “Poet of the Angels”. They turn up a lot in his work but never the same ones in the same way. So it’s not too surprising that some of his most famous quotes from the year 2016 have angels and rainbows in them.

1. First pick for the year is one that got that got a lot of buzz after the killings in Orlando, Florida, and after the crazy murders in Nice, France. The picture quote was posted on Twitter by Hendrik Klaassens for Aurora BlogSpot but the quote was shared all over the net. no_envy_or_jealousy_-quotation_by_aberjhani-graphic_by_h_klassens

“There is no envy, jealousy, or hatred between the different colors of the rainbow. And no fear either. Because each one exists to make the others’ love more beautiful.”
––Aberjhani (from Journey through the Power of the Rainbow, Quotations from a Life Made Out of Poetry)

2. The second citation is from a book review titled Taking Time to Think, and Love, Again. The review was about the book Already Here, the Matter of Love, and it gave us these lines:

“Imagine if we chose as eagerly to cultivate practices which increase the presence of Love and Joy in the world as we do to engage actions which hasten the destruction of our fellow human beings. That is within the realm of possibility for everyone.”
(QP, Bright Skylark Literary Productions)

3. One of the biggest moves the Quotable Poet made in 2016 was to give his first novel a reboot on the new Freed Reads platform. Who saw that coming?
“At its core, the novel Christmas When Music Almost Killed the World has always been about lovers attempting to reconcile the demands of their mysterious almost-mythical destinies with the ache-filled longings of human hearts. That enigmatic core, however, is only one of the drivers behind the book’s Valentine’s Day reboot with this new title: Songs from the Black Skylark zPed Music Player.” (Aberjhani from Christmas Gets a Valentine’s Day Weekend Reboot)

christmas_and_valentines_books_quote_by_aberjhani
4. Resolving social and injustices and racial inequality is something the QP has been writing about for a long time so a lot of his work is a natural fit for Black Lives Matter and dealing with “the New Jim Crow.” Hard as it was for some of us to imagine the body count in 2016 going up for black people killed by police in America it kept on doing that.

“There is no such thing as overstating the crisis of oppressive human rights violations represented by the so-called ‘high school to prison pipeline’ in the United States and its devastating impact upon African-American communities. The modern industrial prison complex is dangerously emblematic of apartheid-like practices. Dismantling it means coming to terms with how it came to be and why it continues to expand.”––(Aberjhani from essay 10 Books Keeping One Writer’s Company)

prison_complex_quotation_1by_qp_aberjhani

5. An election year by definition is all about leadership. When it came choosing either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, citizens in America and other countries quoted the QP’s famous words about the job facing voters. But we like this:

“Leadership has never been an exact science but it has always found itself particularly challenged when tasked with elevating one segment of a society onto a level more politically, socially, and economically equitable with another.”
––(Aberjhani from The 2015 Bid for Power and History in Savannah)

Here’s hoping we all make it to beginning of a Happy New Year 2017.

It’s not hard to figure out why the Quotable Poet’s new digital book, Songs from the Black Skylark zPed Music Player, went straight into the Top 20 Most Popular Books list on AuthorsDen when it came out last month. At least 3 reasons come to mind right away:

Reason No. 1

The novel was made available to readers free of charge. Except for promotional giveaways, that’s something the QP has never done before. You’ve probably guessed already that there’s a big reason behind it that has a lot to do with new technology. Check out it out: Christmas Gets a Valentine’s Day Weekend Reboot

QP Aberjhani zPed Music Player novel AuthorsDen Top 5 Books
Check out Songs from the Black Skylark zPed Music Player at number 4 on the AuthosDen list of Most Popular Books.

Reason Number 2

This second reason is because this is a new revised edition of one of his most popular books, Christmas When Music Almost Killed the World. We said it before just about everybody else that Christmas is one of QP Aberjhani’s best works because it combines all the things he’s celebrated for… powerful controversial plot-lines, poetic prose, amazing characters, original images, and musical flow. Thing is, famous quotes from the first edition now belong to the new one as well:

QP Aberjhani zPed Music Player quote art from quotes-dot-co-uk
Quote from the novel Songs from the Black Skylark zPed Music Player by Literary Lion and Quotable Poet Aberjhani.

Reason Number 3

The upgraded angle is bumpin’. It wasn’t bad before when people compared it to works by Kahlil Gibran and Philip K. Dick. But the “mythopoeic odyssey” angle seems like a better fit because that’s really what the heroes go through while trying to hold on to love and hold back a ton of suicides. Mix in the New Website with Bonus Stories and you’re giving readers something worth saying a lot of good things about.

Nobody’s said how long this book is gonna be available to read for free. For right now though it’s all about “getting while the getting’s good.”

African-American authors, Attacks in Paris, Best Quotes of the Year 2015, demographics, Diversity, Eiffel Tower, Happy New Year, Happy New Year 2016, Internet news, poet of the angels, quotes, Savannah author, terrorism, the quotable poet

Motivation speakers like to tell us one of the best ways to know where you’re going is to check out where you’ve already been. We’ve seen similar suggestions from the Quotable Poet as well. So since it looks like everybody’s in agreement with that idea our quotes for December are 5 of the best from the year 2015 for hipsters and dipsters to take with them into the year 2016.

As for the QP himself the year 2015 was obviously a BIG ONE since he announced that he was cutting back on column articles and administrative duties at Creative Thinkers International to go big on his current literary projects. That’s not something we can complain about around here because like Adele fans always hot for the next release we’re always pumped for the latest from the QP:

Best Quotable Poet Quotes of the Year 2015

 1.

Diversity quote by Aberjhani with Eiffel Tower digital art by Bright Sky Lit Prods 1L

“Diversity is an aspect of human existence that cannot be eradicated by terrorism or war or self-consuming hatred. It can only be conquered by recognizing and claiming the wealth of values it represents for all.”
(Aberjhani, the quote’s on Goodreads but it came from his masterwork on the Paris attacks: For Love of Paris and a More Compassionate World)

2.

“Much of this [the 21st] century’s first decade and a half has been comprised of trends and unforeseen progressions that basically trashed reality as humanity knew it and reconstructed it via the mechanisms of a technology-based revolution.”
(Aberjhani, from When the Lyrical Muse Sings the Creative Pen Dances)

3.

MS25 QP Aberjhani quote graphic based on 15th century painting by Melozzo do Forli

“From opposite ends of time and space
a dream and a song quietly embrace…like
the sun’s murmuring lips upon the moon’s blue face.”
(Aberjhani, from Rainbow-Song for the Angel of Tao)

4.

“Leadership has never been an exact science but it has always found itself particularly challenged when tasked with elevating one segment of a society onto a level more politically, socially, and economically equitable with another.”
Aberjhani (from The 2015 Bid for Power and History in Savannah)

5.

Quotable poet text graphic with Aberjhani quote on Diversity for MS25 UPLD

“Periods of shifting demographics, along with the often overwhelming giant crashing waves of sudden historical events themselves, often create odd partnerships and dangerously extreme polarization.”
(Aberjhani, from Abbreviated Mind Syndrome Article 3: Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson)

So all we need now are some rock-solid dates on the new releases. But for right now if you’re into the holiday spirit have some good safe times and let’s hope we all get to enjoy a great New Year 2016.

Closing out with a shout out to BSLP for permission granted to use intellectual properties.

September 11 2001 quote by Aberjhani with graphic from AZQuotes                                                                                          (From AZQuotes)

This month’s quotes are from AZQuotes because they’re in the process of setting up such a cool website that there’s a good chance somebody here is going to sign up on it. Just not possible not to like the profile pages, love the quote selections, and truly dig the feature that lets you make quote graphics. Both quotes you see pictured here come from the poem “Angel of Remembrance: Candles for September 11, 2001.” So enjoy the one up top and the one at the bottom.

Now for the Top 3 QP News Notes: All the changes coming out of the Quotable Poet’s camp this summer have been big ones. These are the top 3 but if you got something hotter let us know:

1) HOT OFF THE PRESS: You can call “Creative Flexibility and Annihilated Lives” an instant QP classic published in the new edition of Words & Violence. It rocks a bangin’ new essay with a classic poem, fresh hash tags for your social-media-conscious consideration, and some deep new vibes on guerrilla decontextualization.

2) The Red Room author website shut down in July and that means the Quotable Poet Aberjhani’s pages on the site did too. It had some articles, photos and videos piled up over d6 years that nobody else had. These and the works of other writers on the site are now supposed to be on Internet Way Back Machine.

3) So after Red Room went on the auction block the QP set up two new signif writing camps to go along with his base blog and CTI page. One went up on LinkedIn and the other on Wattpad. Some people might say the LinkedIn Blog is not a good fit but the QP said it works.

August 2014 Quotable Poet 90th Birthday Salute to James Baldwin

James Baldwin software art by Joe Williams for Blacksoftware.com Shared in honor of The Year of James Baldwin acknowledging Baldwin’s 90th birthday August 2, 2014.

“There is a ‘sanctity’ involved with bringing a child into this world: it is better than bombing one out of it.”—James Baldwin’s book The Price of the Ticket

“Sociologically, politically, psychologically, spiritually, it was never enough for him [James Baldwin] to categorize himself as one thing or the other: not just black, not just sexual, not just American, nor even just as a world-class literary artist. He embraced the whole of life the way the sun’s gravitational passion embraces everything from the smallest wandering comet to the largest looming planet…” –– Aberjhani from article The Quotable James Baldwin

If you had to guess what smokin’ hot actress Kerry Washington, Hollywood big-timer Jake Gyllenhaal, and the Quotable Poet all had in common what would you say? Besides the obvious fact that they’re all talented creatives in their way?

The answer would be that they’ve all gone on record blowin’ up books by James Baldwin. Kerry Washington did the YouTube “Importance of Reading” literacy video about how she fell in love with Baldwin’s “middle road” racial politics. Gyllenhaal was part of the launch for The Year of James Baldwin. And QP Aberjhani’s got at least half a dozen articles, reviews, and essays about Baldwin online––where the poems at QP? The latest story-piece is called The Year of James Baldwin Now in Full Classic Literary Swing.

When Jake Gyllenhaal went all intellectual in a public discussion of a novel by Baldwin it caught a lot of people off guard. Why was that? Can’t the man look studly and be smart too? The QP has been writing about Baldwin for years and the 2 authors have a lot in common. Being African-American male authors is just part of it. They’re both also multi-genre authors and both are African-Americans who have spent a lot of time outside the United States.

Most readers know Baldwin for his essays, novels, and short stories. Turns out he wrote poetry too (anybody under 25 who say they knew that already is probably lying.) This is a short one from his brand new book of poems is called Jimmy’s Blues with an intro from Nikky Finney.

SUNDAY

The mint bed is in
bloom: lavender haze
day. The grass is
more than green and
throws up sharp and
cutting lights to
slice through the
plane tree leaves. And
on the cloudless blue
I scribble your name.
–James Baldwin (from Jimmy’s Blues)

If you check out the Amazon page for the book you’ll see where Maya Angelou described Baldwin as “a giant” and the Booklist Review says “Poetry was the current that powered his novels, essays, and plays…” That’s more than enough to join the Quotable Poet in giving Baldwin a shout-out for his 90th birthday on August 2nd and for checking what The Year of James Baldwin is all about.

Quotable Poets for National Poetry Month 2014

American poets, Authors frequently mentioned on the web, book reviews, Conrad Aiken, contemporary poets, famous quotations, Flannery O’Connor, haiku, haiku poetry, haiku quotes, Internet news, lexicon, modern poets, National Poetry Month, quote of the day, quotes, quotes about poets, quotes about stars, Quotes for National Poetry Month, Savannah, the quotable poet, The River of Winged Dreams, Twenty-first Century Authors, world poets

“Stars ink your fingers
with a lexicon of flame
blazing rare knowledge.”
–from poem titled Poets of the Angels by Aberjhani
(courtesy of Bright Skylark Lit Prods & Postered Poetics)

National Poetry Month is usually an easy time to write this blog because the Quotable Poet has written a lot of poems about poetry and picking one would have been stress-free. He’s also pumped out enough articles and essays about other quotable poets to fill a book…which he’s probably done already. Take for example this handful from just the past year and just last week:

1. Poets of the Past and Present in the 2014 Spotlight
2. Text and Meaning in T.J. Reddy’s Poems in One-Part Harmony 1
3. Text and Meaning in Robert Frost’s Dedication: For JFK
4. Text and Meaning in Langston Hughes’ The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain Part 1

Around March 28 his Bright Skylark crew posted a new killer graphic on Goodreads to celebrate NaPoMo and we noticed the quote on it came from the poem Angels of the Poets. It’s a poem that already has 3 popular quotes from it… That seems almost average for about half the poems in The River of Winged Dreams. But this one is about the deep side of what some poets trip on when they slide into their creativity mode. So it’s a good fit for National Poetry Month.

Another good popular quote says “Turnabout is fair play.” That means since the Quotable Poet put out so many cool vibes about other authors and poets it seems time to share what a couple have said about him. These popped up on Quotes.net which describes itself as “a huge collection of literary quotations and movie quotes from endless number of famous authors and featured movies, collaboratively assembled by contributing editors.” Um, OK.

Poem of the Month January 2014: Miguel upon the Sand Dunes of Ecstasy and Hell

Bridge of Silver Wings 2014 New Year quote by Aberjhani with artwork by Wellness Blog on Speakingtree.in2014 Happy New Year artwork with quote by Aberjhani “Speaking Tree” in Times of India.

The real poem of the month for January 2014 is the title poem from the book The River of Winged Dreams. The simple reason is because that’s the poem (and the book) which gave the world one of the most texted, messaged, and posted quotations used to bring in the New Year. It didn’t hurt when the quote got picked up as one of the Top 10 New Year SMS Wishes for 2014 and journalists from Monterey in California to those in India embedded it in feature stories. You can even find it on the news website for the United Nations.

But the thing is this: the complete poem that the quote comes from has never been published on the web and word is it’s there are no plans to change that anytime soon. We respect that. Since we couldn’t post the complete poem we had to come up with another one that hit with the same kind of vibe. We succeeded by turning to the pages of Quotable Poet Aberjhani’s first book,  I Made My Boy Out of Poetry and are hitting with” Miguel Upon the Sand Dunes of Ecstasy and Hell.” The reviews for this poem on AuthorsDen give some excellent reasons for making it the poem of the month. But it’s mostly because what it describes is how a lot of people say they feel (well, using their own words) in their heads as we step out of the year 2013 and into the New Year 2014:

Miguel Upon the Sand Dunes of Ecstasy and Hell
(Passion for the Shaman in 1994: That Love Should Have Its Way)

Breathes burning sugar and frozen memory,
pumps holiness through each of his cells
while the sun squeezes his behind
and crumbles his spine
flips, flops, and rolls him back and forth
like a baker gone insane
slapping bread into crucified dreams of art.

His desert sky shines with goddesses
cooing clouds inside your ears
the air freezes with angels demanding
you stand up and glow like one true god.
Snakes in white tuxedos crawl rattling down your throat
and you shit poison for more days in hell
than you ever want to count again.
A dead butterfly makes love to your eyes
and you shiver semen wide across the wind’s wide naked tongue.

You are golden and rose like a beautiful ballet.
You are cold, demonic and hungry.
A storm gray and furious and white
is what your soul looks like
zooming in and out of your pitiful heart.
Look at her praying for you Miguel
and bleeding for you, loving God for you and
swallowing the whole history of His pain for you.

Miguel upon the sand dunes of ecstasy and hell
imagines he is Walt Whitman
cut straight in half by the beauty of soldiers,
dreams he is Malcolm X and Gandhi bleeding justice
inside the syphilitic mouth of a nation.
Believes he is ancient and Yoruban and female
splitting his body giving re-birth to his father,
provides comfort to ghosts fresh from their bones,
sets free the niggers in Alice Walker’s nightmare
and sings her demons into well-earned death.

Miguel burns godly and shamanistic, his chest
studded with rubies, mouth foaming diamonds,
three black owls pour feathers on his head
and he yells into the night:
“I insist unrelentingly upon ecstasy
and I demand that Love should have its way
with all my Lord’s creation.”
Miguel walks hard-on bowlegged through the desert
shouting new light into this new sky
screaming loud Ezekiel’s name.

Prophets kiss his tears, laugh hallelujah,
get him stoned on wine.
Saints wash his blood, they all sing amen,
tell Miguel to be quiet for a while.

September Poet of the Month Salute to Rumi: Time to Be the Sun

Jalaluddin Rumi September 2013 Poet of the MonthJalal al-Din Rumi (courtesy of Google screenshot)

Quotable Poet readers who’ve check out the QP around the Internet know September is a big month for him for some good reasons. He founded Creative Thinkers International in the month of September to ease some of the stress people were suffering over 9/11. September is also when his books Encyclopedia of the Harlem Renaissance and The Wisdom of W.E.B. Du Bois both came out exactly 10 YEARS AGO THIS MONTH! (Shouldn’t he be inviting everybody to a party or something? Just sayin’…)

But guess what else???! This is the birth month of the Great Mystical Sufi Poet Jalal al-Din Rumi, born on September 30, 1207. Which was what? 806 years ago. QP Aberjhani is known for celebrating the lives of great poets and he’s produced poems, essays, and book reviews about Rumi. PLUS he’s been liking and sharing Rumi-related pages on Facebook ever since Syria crossed that big red line everybody said they shouldn’t.

The poem “Time to Be the Sun” comes from the book I Made My Boy Out of Poetry. An introduction to the poem is titled “From the Book of Aberjhani Dreaming: Dancing with Rumi 4/18/95” and describes an actual dream of the QP dancing with Rumi. This is the poem posted by permission of Bright Skylark Literary Productions:

 Time to Be the Sun

Wake up pretty baby.
It’s time to be the sun.

Time for us to drop
back down to earth
like old lovers
falling into new appreciation
for the soft mouth
of an attraction
that is no longer beautiful.

Open your eyes,
oh precious light.
It’s time to cry
the glorious syllables
of our past,
time to thrash and moan like dragons
breathing hot
the secret songs of our future.

We are going to the valley
where roses blush naked and wise,
we are going to the mountain
where night rolls fiercely
with an uninhibited dawn.

Wake up pretty baby,
shine bright my summer joy,

Time to be the sun
          and send forth flesh
to heal the bones of time.

Time to be the woman
          hauling up gold
from a heart you thought destroyed.

Time to be the man
          you thought long dead
buried in waters of tortured mind.

Time to be your own faith
          and give miracles to heaven.

Time to be your own truth
and pull your ass up out of hell.

Time to be the sun
and watch your soul rise pretty baby shine,
                   rise pretty baby shine,
                             rise pretty baby shine.

What’s up with hanging out at Creative Thinkers International

Hanging out with CTI 2013

“At a time in history when so many in the world chose to exhibit the worst of what human beings might become, they at least tried to demonstrate the very best of what human beings might become.”—Aberjhani (from Creative Thinkers International and 21st Century Notions of Community)

It’s hard to refute something, no matter how screaming bad you might want to, when it makes Google News and a good-sized part of the subject is also the author. That’s the way the feelings went down when the Quotable Poet posted “Creative Thinkers International Goes on Offline Hiatus” in his Examiner column last week.

Whaaaat the hell does that mean EXACTLY!?!?! After six years of spotlighting unsung heroes, singers, writers, poets, artists, and miscellaneous geniuses from all over the planet… the website is no more???? At least it looked that way for a few days, but then it came back online.

The original story told us some important things but probably not enough. Maybe the real deal comes out when you read between the lines. The first part of the article announces that the site is going offline but it’s really an introduction to the last blog Aberjhani posted on CTI about the site.

Ask certain insiders and they say managing Creative Thinkers International plus working on important book projects finally overloaded the QP’s creative circuit boards. When you look at his output over the past few years and check out all the boats he still floatin’ right now you have to wonder how he’s managed to pull it all off for this long. The easy answer is that like most famous authors he’s got helpers––people he calls “techno angels”–– but even working with angels must take a lot of adjusting and regrouping.

The main thing for the moment is that it’s looking like CTI might make its sixth anniversary and that’s gotta be a good thing.

If we include a certain QP quote about rainbows in this list, that quote would end up at the top like it did last year because of all the phenomenal images that bloggers have matched it with. And because so many on Pinterest, Tumblr, Facebook, and Twitter have posted it by itself.  So instead of including it in THIS LIST, we’re going to do a separate post showing some of the best images used to illustrate the quote.  If the viral roll keeps on going like it is, some people might start calling the Quotable Poet “The Poet of the Rainbow.” Makes you wonder how those readers would feel who call him “A Poet of the Angels.”

The images you see in this list are just some of the ones used with these particular quotes by the QP Aberjhani. We’re not saying they’re better than any of the others, they just happen to be particularly well liked. Anyhows, here’s the countdown of the Top 5 from 2012 with links to the original posts if they’re still available:

Quotation Peace is not so much a political mandate by Aberjhani with art by Alex Grey

5. The longer the Afghanistan war and the bomb-tossing in the Middle East goes on the more people post this quote: “Peace is not so much a political mandate as it is a shared state of consciousness that remains elevated and intact only to the degree that those who value it volunteer their existence as living examples of the same…  Peace ends with the unraveling of individual hope and the emergence of the will to worship violence as a healer of private and social dis-ease. “ —from The American Poet Who Went Home again posted on FB by Cosmic Consciousness:

Oh What a Wonderful Soul Quote by Aberjhai posted on Facebook Wall Photos

4. Gotta full disclosure correct myself about this quote at number 4 because I said in another blog that one of the lines was wrong but turns out two versions are in the novel. The image is from the Healing the Planet 2012 page on Facebook.

“Oh what a wonderful soul
so bright inside you.
Got power to heal
the sun’s broken heart,
power to restore
the moon’s vision too.”
–Aberjhani, from Christmas When Music Almost Killed the World

Souls recontructed with faith quote by Aberjhani posted by Judge Greg Mathis

3. “Souls reconstructed with faith transform agony into peace.” –from The River of Winged Dreams and shared on Twitter and FB by Judge Greg Mathis: https://twitter.com/JudgeGregMathis/status/263303896703852544

Quote by Aberjhani on Job facing Ameican Voters

2. Nobody was surprised when this quote turned up as a lot of people’s quote of the day or quote of week during the presidential election: “The job facing American voters… in the days and years to come, is to determine which hearts, minds, and souls command those qualities best suited to unify a country rather than further divide it, to heal the wounds of a nation as opposed to aggravate its injuries, and to secure for the next generation a legacy of choices based on informed awareness rather than one of reactions based on unknowing fear.”  –Aberjhani, from Illuminated Corners, Collected Essays Vol. 1. The Death and Rebirth of a Dream

"The death of a dream can in fact serve as the vehicle that endows it with new form, with reinvigorated substance, a fresh flow of ideas, and splendidly revitalized color. In short, the power of a certain kind of dream is such that death need not indicate finality at all but rather signify a metaphysical and metaphorical leap forward." --from THE RIVER OF WINGED DREAMS
