Maybe the Quotable Poet’s been taking hints from our posts. Why’s that you wanna ask? Cause he acknowledged on LinkedIn the intensity of getting a monster new poem called Ode to the Good Black Boots that Served My Soul So Well published at the same time…wait for it…. that he dived deep-sh*t heavy in politics with 7 Steps to Help Replace Legislated Fear with Informed Compassion.

Most QPs could’ve pulled off one win or the other but how many you see dropping double-kicks like that? The poem is his first one published on the web since the elegy Gullah-Gospel Griot Allen Fireall written for the southern Gullah artist was published with a story about him back in March.

We’re sharing the link to Ode to the Good Black Boots that Served My Soul So Well as the poem of the month for November. When you read it on Poetry Life and Times you can see after the by-line where it’s from an announced book of “New & Selected Poems.” That’s some big news to be slipping in on the side like that. He topped it off with a commentary on AuthorsDen that was picked up by the daily Poetry Lifetimes. Check it out:

Reflections on Ode to the Good Black Boots that Served My Soul So Well

What we used to say about the QP Aberjhani not being much of a political writer is def no longer the case. His LinkedIn blog on Stand Your Ground laws was featured on the LinkedIn Influencers’ Law & Government page and picked up by Google News. The quote on the graphic below is part political and part spiritual, it’s been shared by some of everybody from US Senator Cory Booker on Facebook to netizens all over Tumblr. Peace political mandate quote by Aberjhani w quotation graphic by J Wisdom from AZquotes 1

“Peace is not so much a political mandate as it is a shared state of consciousness that remains elevated and intact only to the degree that those who value it volunteer their existence as living examples of the same… Peace ends with the unraveling of individual hope and the emergence of the will to worship violence as a healer of private and social dis-ease.” —Aberjhani from essay February 15, 2003: The History That Peace Made (quote graphic from AZQuotes)

Lookin’ at the way he’s closing out 2014 makes us real curious about what’s coming up in 2015.

March 2014 Quote of the Month and Words for World Poetry Day

Language of the rainbow quotation 1 by Aberjhani with Pegasus artwork by Postered Poetics“The language of the rainbow is a lexicon of light devoted to concepts of faith, unity, hope, endurance, and joy.”
–from Journey through the Power of the Rainbow by Aberjhani (graphic courtesy of Bright Skylark Literary Productions)

Why no poem of the month for February 2014? Because most of us were waiting to see if the announcement that Creative Thinkers International was going offline on February 5 was true. Turns out it was. To us that was a serious Black History Month 2014 moment all by itself.

Investing close to 7 years into building a community from 1 member to a humanitarian organization of more than 500 is not easy to do. But it happened because the Quotable Poet opened the doors of the CTI Initiative after 9/11 to basically everybody willing to share positive vibes with the world. It wasn’t the kind of thing you can compare to Whatsapp with its one-million-people every day sign-ups because it wasn’t just about selfie culture.  It was about making things like bullying, starvation, wars, terrorism, and generally not-giving-a-f*ck go away.

CTI went offline once before but then made a great comeback with new member sign-ups and fresh blogs, photographs, and video posts every other day. The question now is can it do that again? The Quotable Poet did not say straight up that it would but in his last blog post on the website this is what he wrote:

“The need to take one central outpost of the CTI concept offline while continuing to examine the best ways to maintain and further extend its legacy does not mean an end to the resilient singing heart of CTI. It means a metamorphosis–– like that undertaken by the caterpillar which wraps itself in a cocoon before transforming into something very different from what it was–– is in progress.” ––Aberjhani

This can mean a lot of things and maybe that’s his point.

You might have noticed that the quote used at the beginning of this post doesn’t come from a poem in The River of Winged Dreams or Visions of a Skylark Dressed in Black. It’s a preview from the collection of quotes Journey through the Power of the Rainbow and might not be from a poem at all but it’s all about hanging in there and toughing it out to see what happens next.

Who don’t love it when something great just falls into your lap? Ok, well, maybe it gets thrown there by a blogosphere spy so you say “Wow, cool, that’ll work!”  That’s how it was when I found out about the Quotable Poet’s interview with author Dee Dee Scott. Since he don’t do a lot of those, there’s a whole lot to check out at this link:

Countdown is On for The River of Winged Dreams Giveaway

16 Wednesday Jun 2010

Starting tomorrow, June 16 in this righteous year 2010—WHAT! WE’RE HALFWAY THRU 2010 ALREADY!—fifteen days will be left until the great “River of Winged Dreams” Giveaway on Goodreads. Now I’m not accusing anybody of ripping off my intellectual property nuggets or anything like that but I find it interesting that the Quotable Poet’s inner circle camp launched the giveaway sweepstakes after my last blog quoting his self-critique of the work… hmmmm, don’t you?

I mean I’m jez sayin’…  Wasn’t no talk or anything like that at all about it and then BAM! right after my blog hit… But it’s all good… or maybe I should say it’s all Goodreads for the time being because that’s where the action’s going to throw down on June 30. The last time I peeped, more than 140 people were signed up to win one of three copies at this link: http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show/4275-the-river-of-winged-dreams

But I found the countdown clock ticking away on Squidoo.com at this “lens”: The River of Winged Dreams
And on that same lens (that’s what they call a post on Squidoo… a lens) is part 2 of the title poem… Which by the way I have not seen published anywhere– to answer the blogarazzi.

I’m guessing/predicting/prognosticating that Goodreads will not be the last stop on the Giveaway tour circuit. And I’m guessing/predicting/prognosticating this for what reason???? ? Number one, because Aberjhani’s got houses in a lot of neighborhoods and sharing with only one just wouldn’t be right in my always bold opinion.

And number two, the word is already out that the hardcover gift edition of The River of Winged Dreams is about to launch (check out the big hint below courtesy of Metafriends Unlimited) and I’m just thinking out loud here… don’t really mind if a certain team take the idea and score points with it… but a hardcover gift edition would be so seriously cool for a giveaway… I mean, I wouldn’t mind getting a free autographed review copy myself…

Y’all listening????

The Death and Rebirth of a Dream

"The death of a dream can in fact serve as the vehicle that endows it with new form, with reinvigorated substance, a fresh flow of ideas, and splendidly revitalized color. In short, the power of a certain kind of dream is such that death need not indicate finality at all but rather signify a metaphysical and metaphorical leap forward." --from THE RIVER OF WINGED DREAMS
